Sure Humankind is not exactly like Civ6 but as the name implies its not the first game of the series far from it. Humankind is going to feel closer to a Civ experience with a healthy dose of Endless Legend thrown in. Civ 6 getting it on sale.

Nobody else has really tried to create their version of Civ. But to your question. Combat-wise its closer.

Even if Amplitude devs clearly want to make their own thing people project this kind of stuff. Its mechanics feel more focused with a unique resource system. Too early to tell what the favorite difference will be but personally I lost love for the Civ franchise primarily due to the reduced role of combat.

But humankind looks very pretty and the music was amazing so I wanted to give it a try at least. There are other 4X games out there but any I can think of are geared toward fantasy or sci-fi.

I think that Civ has gone so many years uncontested in its genre historical turn based 4x game that people see this as Amplitude going for the championship belt against Civ.
